Ethiopian law makers have elected Sahle-Work Zewde as the country's first female president.
She become the only first and only female president in the continent after Liberia's Sirleaf S
ahle-Work is a diplomat and a United Nations representative who has now become Africa's only female head of state.
Sahle-Work will be a Ceremonial President
Her election to the ceremonial position confer on her some roles but the Prime Minister Abuy Ahmed holds the political power.
The Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed seeks to ensure gebder equality in their patraichial society. He has appointed a cabinet with half the posts taken up by women.
After being sworn in, President Sahle-Work promised to work hard to make gender equality a reality in Ethiopia.
